Walking In LOVE

I am persuaded that I can eat oysters without violating any Scriptural principle (Acts 10:9-15). Barry is persuaded that, not only are oysters “disgusting”, but Leviticus calls them an “abomination” (Leviticus 11:9-12)! In addition, Barry is allergic to oysters and his face will swell like a blowfish, even if he is near someone eating oysters. If I am associated with oysters, I can’t be associated with Barry. And yet, I confess, there’s a part of me that wants to see Barry the Blowfish! What should I do?

I have every right to eat oysters. I am convinced and can defend it with Scripture! But its not good for Barry! Barry? or oysters?

Romans 14:15 “But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.”

All it takes to walk uncharitably is to prioritise my liberty over Barry’s welfare.

Ephesians 5:2 says “And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.”

Walking in love involves sacrifice, and there is no greater example than Christ. I must forgo oysters. We hope you understand this is not about oysters, and we apologise to any Barry’s who read this. Christians, we have a responsibility to walk charitably.

Romans 14:19-21 “Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.”
